Groundhog Day - Are you Changing, or Doing the Same Day After Day?

So here we are again - the second day of February. A rather under-celebrated holiday known as Groundhog Day. A day only of importance to Punxsutawney Phil. You may recall the Bill Murray movie from the 90's where it satirizes that concept of the same things happening every day, day after day...
Think about where you were at on February 2, 2013 - you could even look through your old emails or your calendar from that time last year. Now fast forward to today.
How are things different?
A few points to consider:
- Priorities. What were your top priorities a year ago? How have they shifted (assuming that they have)? Are there new ones in their place or did you achieve your previous goals?
- Trends. What were the trends specific to your marketplace last year and what's the state of your marketplace today? How does that affect the goals and objectives you put in place for your team? What new trends have come about since then?
- Goals. What were your goals last year and what are they this year? Have your goals strategically shifted? How are you achieving different objectives?
- Execution. What activities were you doing last year that weren’t working, that you are still doing? What are you going to do different this year?
While we may all joke about things not changing and staying the same, sometimes, it’s the truth. Today, as Groundhog Day celebrations occur in offices everywhere, consider how things have shifted over the past year.
Make sure you aren’t just repeating each day over and over - how are you going to change?
